Part of my initial impetus for taking up cycling, besides losing weight, was to get to better locations for photography, locations you would miss going by in an automobile. Now, much of my photography seems to be cycling related. This is how people become permanently confused. Even others. I once, on a ride, heard two other folks arguing over whether I was the "Great Big Photography Store Guy"or "The Cycling Guy"

Great photos they are too. Isn't it nearly twister season in your parts and will we get some of twisters speeding along the prairies ?

Fishing can go well with touring. You just take a fold down rod or pole but it does mean sharing your lunch with the fish!!

I always take a small pair of binoculars for watching birds; hoopoes, crested larks and white storks are common around Ankara, and I've often seen black storks, egrets, orioles and eagles.

Generally, in my parts, tornadoes happen in June. Because I'm a little east of the tornado alley, our tornado usually comes wrapped in rain. So I'm usually sitting in the basement with Mrs G.A. and dogs. I take a lot of pictures of weather, and should have some in my files from the film era. Pretty tame weather here the last few years for that part.

Many people, when I tell them of this storm in April, 2006, think of the tale as pure blarney. Hail nearly an inch in diameter, more than an inch deep on the ground, interacting with the 90f air and creating fog, as well as a temporary 15 degree temperature drop. You can also see a nascent wall cloud that later put out a tornado, but there was not an active tornado at this point, but about as violent a thunderstorm that occurs without producing one. When I tell cycling tourists to mind the weather in the Midwestern U.S., I think of this storm. Yes, those tire tracks are through accumulated hail. My dog at the time hopped out of the truck (I thought she had to answer nature's call) and came back with a mouth full with 3 hailstones and proceeded to curl up and eat them on the truck seat. That is the one picture I wish I had taken.

Excellent pictures GA especially the one with the houses in the background and what looks like, but isn't, a snow storm. Glad to hear you are not one those "storm chasers" and stay safely below ground as i dread to think what it would have been like above ground when that storm happened.

Actually, I was traveling down the road and saw the wall cloud. In a storm like this, the whole storm spins. I was taking my puppy to see my cousin. I often photograph lightning and thunderstorms, but stay away from the truly big events. I hid the truck next to a roadhouse, and it was pretty well shielded, then called the weather service. I ran into a farmer out surveying his fields after this, and he said a tornado had followed this track in 1974, one of the first tornadoes of the "Super Outbreak"

Geocaching - using a handheld gps device or smart phone to find containers that are hidden all over the world. A walk or cycle with a purpose. The containers must contain a logbook to sign and some contain trackables or geo coins. A trackable is anything with an official dog tag attached which is moved from cache to cache and can be tracked online. Like wise the same happens with coins which are quite smart. Nice when you find a TB or GC which has travelled around the globe. Geocaching.com. P.S. its free for basic membership Some caches are easy to find, a cache and dash, others require a bit of working out.

Reading, sight-seeing and singing for me. I use the time on the bike sometimes to practice stuff I'm due to be singing when I'm home from tour, or just for singing for fun

Birdwatching, butterfly and wild flower spotting for me. Especially overseas.

Well as much as you can squeeze in between the drinking at any rate;)

You can combine Flower spotting and beer!
