If designing battery lights, stopping them being easily stealable would be a good start.

Good focused beam for road not chucking light anywhere.

Spirit level or some way of ensuring they are lined up properly.

I prefer easy to remove / refit. Ideally with a two part mount that doesn't rattle when fitted. My cateye Volt 1200 mount is shared with the smaller versions and is probably too small for the 1200 and wears and rattles. Annoyingly only the bar half is replaceable.

I'm not sure I'd be happy leaving £100 plus of light on a bike with any mount.

I have a couple of lezyne lights, 2x stripe drives and a powerdrive. The rubber strap mounts of the strip drives are secure enough, but a pain to attach with gloves and perish.

My light is used on the road, trails and off road on the MTB where I run it with another light angled more down.

I do however find myself covering the light when I meet oncoming traffic/cyclists and peds on trails or off road routes when running higher modes.

A dip mode or selectable asymmetric beam might be useful.

All nice to have.

Waterproof.

Essential. Most of the cheaper lights I've owned die due to water ingress
