hi all,

Im needing a bike for a 7 mile hilly commute (and for leisure use) and have been recommended the new charge grater 2 (out end of sept).
Im also looking at the specialized sirrus sport disc 2016 and cannondale quickspeed 1 2016. there are a few specialized bike around the 600-800 mark that look interesting.
im looking to spend around that mark, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experiences with these.
or any other recommendations would be gratefully recieved.
ps: need a unisex/mens bike as im almost 6ft tall.....

cheers

Look at Whyte R7 range with 50/34 on the front and 11-32 on the back

E.g. http://discountcyclesdirect.co.uk/catalog/product.php?CI_ID=12322&Item='Whyte Cambridge 2012 Hybrid/Commuter Bike'

I've just sold one, takes full mudguards, pannier rack, 28mm tyres for road use

I think the key is to define "leisure use".

If you prefer tarmac, and want to stretch your distances, then consider a road-orientated bike, even if it means considering drop bars. If it is trials, skills, drops, etc, then go for something more mountain bike-ish. If it is packing a bag, heading out into the countryside and having a night or two under canvas, then look at a touring bike style. And if its juggling three flaming clubs whilst wearing a red nose, consider a unicycle.

I have an undulating 7 mile commute, and went for the road bike option. After getting fit on my daily ride, I started pushing upwards from 25-100 miles. I have occasionally found myself on muddy towpaths and rougher paths, and decided that I prefer tarmac and getting around instead, so I think I made the right choice.

My friend has a Sirrus. I have ridden it and it is a very nice bike. I am looking for a new hybrid to replace the one I sold a couple of months ago. I am also considering the Charge grater mainly because it is such a lovely looking bike

Many women start off with a hybrid because most of us did not grow up riding bikes with drop bars. Many of us then end up with road bikes as well a couple of years down the line!

I know it is a couple of weeks since the OP posted but I've a Sirrus and it is a perfect bike for a 7 mile commute. Also in my opinion it is suitable for rides up to 30 or 40 miles, but anything further than that I would be jumping onto my road bike.
