I cycle to my local swimming pool 3 or 4 times a week, the only person at this pool to do this on a regular basis, and alway lock my bike in the same spot - it's the only one where you can safely lean the bike against the wall and it's undercover.

Anyway, this morning I get to 'my' lock up point and, horror of horrors ;), someone else has taken my place. It's an old boy who has always driven up till now and whilst I commend his switch to the enlightened path of cycling that is my friggin' place and he should sod off to another one.

I realise this is totally irrational and I have no claim whatsoever to what is an unreserved space but really I ask you, some people........grumble gripe moan.................

I'm with you on this one!!!

I am the exactly same!

I have been the only cyclist in this building since March 2005 - and in all that time my bike has had the first (and best in my opinion) rack in the empty bike racks!

About 6 weeks ago someone else started to cycle in - first time in all that time - bloody barsteward has nicked my spot!

To make matters worse they have stuck a frigging lock on the rack so I can't even use it when they are not there and what a surprise - last week in all the rain they were not there!

... my bike was the only one there in all the rain, snow, ice, hail etc etc!

Makes me genuinely cross and I know that it's irrational (as do you) but it just isn't on!

I can't even try the get in early trick 'cos of their blooming lock!!!!

How is his lock stopping you from putting your bike there?
Can't you just lock your bike to THAT rack, over his lock?

That's the bloody annoying thing isn't it? You KNOW it's irrational but you still can't help but feel pissed off! We've all been there and we feel your pain

Don't worry. It's a fad for the old bloke, he'll be back in his car soon and you can have YOUR place back!

Oh be quiet and stop fussing. I don't even have bike parking at work, and the best place is 100 yards up the road by the library. They've only got one space and the other day there were two bikes hogging it...neither of them even chained to it - just resting there!!! I had to leave my bike in the town centre (thankfully it was okay, but I was a little paranoid)...oh, who's fussing now ?

No bike parking at my place of work either, three of us cycle in out of eight staff thats quite a good percentage is it not, first come first served for the places behind the stairs in the entrance!!!!
I guess I am the guy who comes in early and nicks the spot off the other girl who comes in every day, where as I only go in about 2/3 days a week, don't know if it narks her or not I might ask her next time.

This entitles you to use that rack. Nay, it compels you.

At UNI I'm in the locked, underground bike park (cool huh!). During the day it gets quite busy and apparently lots of the staff complain about there not being enough room and the fact that a few bikes in there are obviously abandoned.

They're only fussing, because all the empty spaces are a 100 yard walk to the end...errm, any logic there? I don't mind cycling in - but walking to the end of the bike park is too hard!

Loads of people double park right at the start...I wouldn't want my bike getting too close to someone elses so it's stuck right at the other end. The other reason is, hopefully bike thieves will spy one of the bikes at the beginning to nab instead

I know there's a lock on every bloody rack anyway!!!!

I'm going to get a little notice with "Trek 1.0 Parking Only" on it.... or "all weather cyclists" or something!!

... either that - or I could try getting a life!!!!!!

You're lucky. Cycle parking at my office is a cast iron down pipe. There are other downpipes but it's the only non-leaky one. I'm the only one to use it as a means of securing my bike, one guy uses his D-lock to lock his front wheel to the down-tube, the other guy doesn't bother locking his bike up!

Do you own the Swimming pool?

No... ?

Tough, isn't it.

Seriously though, I arrive at work at 06:20. There is one guy who works earlies. He locks his bike in the same spot 'cus he's first there.
I get there second, so have the choice of the remaining places.

If I'm delayed, my regular place will be occupied so I have to put my bike in a different stall.

"First come, first served" as they say; and "The early bird gets the worm" and all that drivvel.

Aha, but the early worm gets eaten!
