Hi all,

Firstly want to day HELLO , just found this forum and joined up.

I do a 20 mile round trip daily to Central London, used to do it on a cheapy mountain bike (Shogun Icefall), did the job for 2 years so decided to upgrade to a Hybrid, after looking at new bikes I decided to get a second hand one from ebay a "Ridgeback Genesis Day 01" (got it for 200), but since getting it I have has nothing but issue after issue with, had it serviced, was told the bike has had a rear knock, and the frame is broken where the rear wheel comes off, when you take the nut off a small piece of frame falls down, this is kept in place by the rear wheel and nut. SHop guy said this is ok for for now , then got 2 punctures on the same day, was told both tyres are shot, so got 2 specialized armadilo tyres plus 2 new inner tubes, got home fitted these, follwing day gears were not changing properly so went to another shop and he advised the rear wheel is not the correct one for the bike and it needs a new chain new brake pads!!:angry::sad: money down the pan ...

Have decided to put the bike to rest and going to get a NEW bike now  I am looking at a Sirrus 2009 (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/sirrus-2009-road-bike-ec016920)

Anyone got this?

Thanks, Saty

Hi
Sirrus is a top bike. I've got the 07 Elite model (I think). Excellent commuting bike.

Hi Maz,

I would love to get, the elite or sport but after wasting so much cash on the other one I gotta settle for the base model

Thanks for the info

Hi Saty,

I've been on a Sirrus for the last few months, my old bike was trashed after some little 5croat couldn't steal it and decided to ruin it instead.

I do a 20 mile round-trip commute on it (also in the big smoke, bro) and while the Sirrus is a good solid performer that eats up the miles at a steady pace there just seems to be something missing from it. For example, the very day I switched to the Sirrus my time was up by around 3 minutes each way, try as I might I just haven't been able to get it down again.

I'm not knocking the Sirrus, it's a good cruiser and since I've been on it I've not had one problem. It just seems to be missing that 'zing' that you get on some bikes.

It's pretty exciting getting a shiny new bike so make sure that you get out for a decent trial ride and settle on something that you are happy and comfortable with before handing over your cash.

Hi Batch,

Thanks for the info..

I took off 10 mins when I went from the MTB to the Hybrid.

I will defo take it for a long ride before buying..

Cheers ;)

I've got an 06 Sirrus sport, its a great bike with plenty of 'zing' for me, it only got faster and faster but I guess its all down to rider perception; given how technology has advanced I would guess that it will be less than equivelant to the base model now. It handled my 17.5mile commute (one way) and a few 100milers fine. In the morning I'd cycled a mile to the station took the train, cycled 1/2 a mile to the office and at night I cycled the whole 17.5 miles. For me it could out accelerate (the older model had a 52T chain ring wheras the new one is 50T) most road bikes and out climb them. The only disappointing thing with all bikes of this type its too good and too near to a dropped bar road bike that you eventually want to go that step to gain the extra advantages on the descent/ longer rides. I've subsequently bought a dropped bar bike and I live closer to work and no longer commute on the Sirrus; I converted it to drops and its my winter club bike (I think I still prefer the flat bar in traffic though).

I've got an Allez, which looked similar in the photo and I'm very happy with that.

I found I needed to change the tires (always got punctures because they were crap) and after quite a few hundred miles the chain/gears needed changing and apparently they weren't that good the default ones. Different bike though, but I would recommend my Allez!

Been riding a Sirrus 08 since May for a 2o mile round journey in Glasgow. No complaints. The only thing I have changed is the pedals from the toe clips supplied to SPD's. Nice and fast and considering its been ridden in some horrendous weather I reckon pretty relaiable.
