Oh come on. A little light heartedness never did anyone any harm.
You're right. Next time I want my heart to feel lighter, I'll yell at a pedestrian on a shared path. Thanks for the tip.

What a ridiculously embellished tale. Surprised there wasn't a "hey nonny nonny" or two chucked in as you righteously "cleft him in twe" with your bike and "split his Pokemon quest asunder."

Can someone remind me why some people hate cyclists. #SHEESH

Yes, it was an embellished tale, a tale of something that did actually happen. Embellished for humorous effect, nothing more. I'm sorry you all failed to see that and took it so damn seriously. Did it ruin his day. I seriously doubt it, I didn't stop to ask. Was he scared out of his wits? Again, without doubt no. Was I rude to him? No Was I smiling as I went past and could he see that I was meerly joshing with him. Yes. Did he care. not in the slightest.

Is this seriously what this cycling community is like?

Well, if you mean do we take exception to cyclists intimidating pedestrians that go passed too fast on shared paths, then yes. We expect car drivers to be safe and courteous around us so the least we can do is the same around those more vulnerable than us.

I see that you are a new cyclist. Please report back when a driver beeps a horn right behind you making you sh1t yourself before he whips passed and then you'll have a feel for it.

I grew out of making up stories to look cool in the playground while I was still in school, there's no need to do it now either.

Not all of us, no, but cyclists do have a bit of an image problem, so anything that is perceived to be propogating this image goes down like a lead baloon, sorry.

As for it 'doing no harm', well, maybe, but you don't know, he might go on to tell the story to the 'wrong' person and hey ho, another idiot driver with more so called 'ammunition' to use against us. Brilliant!

Actions and consequences 'fraid

In my experience it is best just to leave alone as you never know who you are dealing with.

If you havent been cycling long you may not be aware of the Cycling Hate many of us experience, much of it due to actions you described in your post. hence the defensivness(is that a word? is it spelt right?)

Either I didn't read what you thought you typed, or you didn't type what I thought I read. I missed the humour & the joshing.
Maybe you should try adding smilies next to help out.

My nephew has Asbergers and has a real problem going outside on his own, being intimidated by open spaces and proximity to strangers. Pokemon Go has been something he latched onto, and the act of exploring the world with a fixed task to perform really lit him up. Well it did until someone on a bike screamed at him, now he has vowed not to venture away from his house again, still, no harm done.

This story may have been embelished or even invented.

The rules of shared paths. Cyclists give way to pedestrians, everyone gives way to horses. Dogs and children will act unpredictably and must be passed with caution. Slow down and smile.

I would say that there has been plenty of harm done.

People with Aspergers or other forms of ASC are marginalised and ill-considered as it is and people like @Bielzibubz need to consider that anybody they interact with may well be ASC or suffer another disability. Its very bad form that you treat other people in the way that you do, and it reflects negatively on you, and on cyclists generally.

Cop on to yourself.

Agree, my point is that he saw this person not as another human with personality and drives, but an object that was in his way and gave no consideration to that individual. Exactly what we see from some car drivers.
