Ok, so in a simplified model, to test whether it's worth getting more complicated I'd say compare bikes based on;

Frameset
Wheelset
Groupset (split into five categories because these get mixed a lot : shifters, front derailleur, rear derailleur, chainring/crank, cassette)

Weighted 40/30/30%, because I feel like it and within groupset 30,20,20,20,10% Because the shifters have more user interaction, and the cassette is usually first to wear out.

Then we rank frames from carbon aero down to BSO (10-1)
Wheelsets, Fulcrum race 0 to Unknown (10-1)
Group sets Super Record to Unknown (10-1)

Easy.

Suitability for intended purpose, durability, ease of maintenance / repair, availability of parts, cross compatibility of parts, cost / value for money, load carrying ability, versatility, environmental impact, etc etc.

With the largest weighting (about 90% I would say) given to the first thing in that list.
