Hi to all.
Just the other night my ex brother law popped round to the house for a beer ( or two ) and have and chat..He also came round with some goodies in the the form of Bike Shield. It's a clear self adhesive plastic pieces in various shapes and sizes that you apply to your bike frame to protect it from stone chips. cable rubbing on the frame and chain stay protection..He had already done his own bike and what was left he gave it to me. My bikes knocking on a bit now at 33 years old but the frame is truly immaculate with absolutely no stone chips or scratches so i thought this would be an ideal product to protect it now it's getting a lot of use. First impressions of it after tackling it tonight is that it looks very good and very easy to apply. Its virtually invisible and sticks down very well. I was though shocked by how much this stuff sells for. £25 !!! which I personally think is extortionate for what is essentially bit of thick sellotape.
Either way I'm always eternally grateful to my ex brother in-law. He's one of the good guys in this world. :-)

So maybe it doesn't need any protection?

You forgot to add the more relevant part of my post in your quote as in

I used to work for an adhesive tape manufacturer that made this sort of stuff. The expensive element to it is in making it UV resistant. If either the substrate or adhesive aren't UV resistant it goes yellow quickly and looks terrible.

Of course it's gone through a number of hands from manufacturer to ebay seller doing it in short lengths so the price has been jacked up along the way

I bought some 'carbon effect' frame protector on Amazon for £3. Not yet fitted them but they had some good reviews.

3m helitape direct from an adhesive tape company is much cheaper than any where that sells it as bike tape.

4 metres x 50mm wide for about £20. With the word "Bike" added it's about £12 a metre
