theres no law against throwing your leg over a different type of bike of the same size to get an idea of fit

Had to do the maths to work out roughly how tall you are in real money (about 6'1?) I'm 5'11 and comfortably fit a 56 frame

yes 6 foot. Was going on my road bike being 55.5cm and fits fine. Abit annoying I fall in between sizes - might go and try out a 58 frame, but think it would be too big.

I would go for a 58 ... Do you have long ish arms ?
As the 58 has a longer top tube ..and a bigger head stock

I am the same hight as you with long arms 32 ISL ... I had a 56.. got a bike fit and was told 58 would
be more comfortable ! he was right .. Go and try the two sizes !

I am 5'9 and a bit and my genesis is a 54. 56 sounds like it should be ok but you may need a longer stem. Having ended up with chronic tennis elbow from a too big bike, i prefer to err on the small side

I don’t really understand completely frame size/bike fit conundrum & so I am looking at going to see a proper bike fitter at the Velodrome Mcr when funds allow.

FWIW though my bike is a large 56 & fits good - whereas my next planned bike will be a 58 Cube Peloton - even though shop dude recommends a 60.

I am lead to believe that it is not just about height though - I have shorter legs/longer torso thing going on (6 ft 0' & 33' leg) where you could be opposite to this.

Saddle height - top tube length - stem & crank length all play a part & collectively a big part (or so I read).

There is a big feature on bike fit/sizing in a mag i read so will try to find it.

In the meantime though generally I think if it feels comfortable at first - small changes can be made later if required.

Edit.

Just double checked my bikes geometry & it is a 55.5 top tube not 56.

Thanks for everyones help - I had a bike fit on my Boardman road bike & had to shorten the stem as I was reaching too far. So its looking like a 56 should be fine I guess.

I'm 5'10" and ride a 54cm CdF. I potentially could've gone a size smaller so I reckon a 56 would do you.

Thanks for the advice-
what do you think of the bike?

Comfy. Very very comfy. Mine's the bottom of the range Reynolds 520 / Sora version. It is kind of heavy, but I still manage to lug it all over the Peak District. That new 931 version looks beautiful though, and seems to be about 2-3kg lighter than mine, so I can imagine will be lovely to ride. Bear in mind that it is NOT a cyclocross racer, but more of a lightweight tourer. I originally bought it because it's pretty happy off-road as well as on and I wasn't sure what sort of riding I would be doing, but I did get a hankering for a more "proper" road bike.

also doing some long rides this year including LEJOG, so will come in handy for that! thanks again for your help!

I would say it's just about perfect for that kind of thing. Enjoy your new bike.
