I would love to trial this. Greater Anglian railways have just decided to get anal with bikes between 1630 and 1830. Despite the fact there is room for bikes on most trains between 1630 & 1800 followed by no room what so ever from 1800 to 1930. Who would have thought a Dutch train company would enforce such restrictions on bikes at a time when London is trying to promote cycling. I would happily purchase this product just to stick 2 fingers up to the train company and keep my commute home down to a manageable daily 8 mile pedal as opposed to a daily 15 miler to the next friendlier out of London station.

Mr. Bonkers hasn't posted in almost two months.

Has anyone had an opportunity to try one of his bags?

I suspect a tiny adjustment in design could turn this into a super useful bag.

Ive not seen the bag so im sorry if this is how it already works...but here goes.

Line the base of the bag with a thin, lightweight panel of pvc, like the inside of a football bag. Build two strong but small and lightweight upstands into each end of the base...the base takes no load and needs no strength...the upstands do.

Make the upstands tall enough to accept the front forks and rear drop out, supply a light plastic skewer to hold the bike into the upstands.

Zip open the bag, like a huge butterfly, lift bike onto upstands, clamp skewers, zip up bag, chuck over shoulder., board train

Bike is now supported on upstands, set into a fixed (possibly adjustable for frame size) base, no chainring stress, no rear mech jeopardy, no mess leaving oily chains in contact with anything (they are suspended for the most part, until carried, so,just line this section of the bag with wipe clean plastic sheet)

The weight of the upstands would be negligible ( they would only be a couple of inches high, so can be quite sturdy and stout) the base would weigh almost nothing.

I think that would work.
