THIS is a really sad story.
Moped rider kills cyclist in bike lane.
I am constantly being cut up by food delivery scooterists here in SE London. They are forever using bike lanes to nip through traffic and without fail they will always park in the bike ASL when they know they shouldn't.
Something really needs to be done.

Moped rather than e-scooter, in case anyone else misunderstood at first.

How do they compare, weight-wise? Out here in the sticks, only a certain pizza chain seems to be using mopeds so there aren't many of them, while the branded bags either use e-bike or cars... and the cars are forever driving along or parked on cycleways and ASLs while I've yet to see a moped doing so.

Very sad, RIP fellow cyclist.
I feared for some time that something like this would happen.
We don't have mopeds delivery people here in Glasgow that I can see, loads of illegal Ebikes do the delivering.
Yes, they behave like Ian said, using the cycle lanes, bike boxes, shared pavements, cutting cyclist up.
I have been wondering why none of the cycling spoke persons has objected to this, why are we not complaining.
I guess it's because there is too much big business involved, on top of that everyone wants their delivery, then again everyone used to get food delivered before Just Eat was invented!
Many times I wanted to say something to one of those not cyclists in my segregated cycling route, but I'm a bit cautious being a small woman.
Years ago I said something to a motorbike rider in my bike box, he just laughed it off.

I think it's more that there are bigger problems, in at least two major ways:
1. there's all the shoot that motorists are doing and they kill more and keep cycling orgs overloaded with all their nonsense; and
2. the stupid behaviour is a consequence of how the food delivery firms operate. Deal with that and the problem will probably vanish. Don't deal with the underlying problem and new problem riders will appear to replace any caught.

The food delivery firms are answering/meeting a demand.

And neither your post, which I'm quoting, or this one has anything to do with a cyclist killed by a moped rider who was possibly racing other mopeds, in a segregated cycle lane.

There talk the government may ban anyone with a provisional licence, such as these moped delivery riders, from riding for work purposes.

Sorry, no. Was a few montths back, may efen have been on the radio. T'was allegedly one of many proposals being considered in the name of road safety, as was restrictions on new drivers with passengers, etc.

Unethically if not more. And a demand that they stoke with plenty of advertising.

Then you should take it up with the poster who introduced the digression instead of trying to criticise me yet again.

The food delivery firms are answering/meeting a demand.

And are profiting from meeting this demand only by circumventing labour regulation, immigration law, transport law, tax law and competition regulations, just for starters.

Basically, they're leeching off society and wouldn't have a viable business model without it.

Because it costs more money to provide these services in a decent way than people are prepared to pay for them.
