Well worth checking the route before setting out. The image below shows part of my route today. The obvious way is shown in green, what I ended up cycling is in red. As you will notice it was rather steep (3 chevrons in 350m) and the last bit of the route is a footpath - requiring the (road) bike to be lifted over stiles.

How I laughed (not).

What you have to realise (as with all SatNav) is that it is simply data.

How that data is read is open to interpretation. It is simplified for each use. For instance all white roads, many byeways and unfenced roads on an OS map all have the same value when on SatNav, hence the reasons that lorries go down tiny tracks - they are passable on the SatNav

The same applies here. That is probably been designated a track when the data was simplified and hence appears on the route.

If I'm in a strange area (strange to me that is, not strange as in..........well never mind) I plot any rides on RWGPS or on an OS map. I don't have a sat nav type of device so I just rely on memory as to where I end up going.
Explains why I'm always getting lost and 30 mile rides turn into 45 miles.

But getting lost is all part of the fun.

I have found some wonderful pubs, churches etc by becoming positionally challenged

I also have a couple of favourite routes that were discovered by accident

I've spent ages on goggle maps to plan a 10 mile ride: got back completely off route 38 miles later

I never get lost, but sometimes I don't know where I am..
I count it as a good thing as I find places I wouldn't have found if I was where I thought I was going to be.
(or summat like that!)

It's odd but we all, in spite of ourselves tend, to stick to routes and rides we know. A couple of weeks ago I had to take a diversion because of a tractor having broken down and came back home via some lanes I had never used. Less than 5 miles from home and for some reason they were all new to me:scratch: .

That was really my aim in using the BikeHub route without looking at it. I was expecting some surprises. Parts were actually very interesting. I never knew that there was a High Peak Tramway cycle route for example.
