Does anyone else see lots of bikes used as signs for shops and cafés? In Glasgow there's usually at least half a dozen locked up around town, painted entirely gold or turquoise or something, with a sign attached pointing towards the latest/coolest retail establishment. Probably a lot cheaper than the traditional minimum wage sign holder.

Gives the drunks something to kick on a Friday night too (although to be fair, so sometimes did the minimum wage sign holders).

There are at least two near me, the florist and an estate agent (independent not a chain), that have used a bike as a form of advertising for their business.

@Twilkes the reason for the bike signs in Glasgow City centre is that the council has prohibited the use of advertising boards in town, the ones freestanding on the pavements I mean.
So business owners have started to use bikes chained to legit bike parking.
Which is of course taking bike parking spaces away from us.

Everywhere in Cambridge, as soon as a new bike rack goes up in the centre, they almost race to get their bike sign positioned nicely on the end for all to see!

Vandals steal Tour de France bloom bike and throw it in Otley river

Otley in Bloom members with the recovered bicycle on Otley Bridge after it was thrown into the river

A specially painted Tour de France celebration bicycle has had to be rescued from the River Wharfe in Otley.

The bright yellow bike – one of about 20 that Otley in Bloom has positioned around the town – was stolen from its home behind Waitrose supermarket.

The bicycle, trailing yellow flowers from its floral baskets, was then taken down Westgate, over Beech Hill and on to Otley Bridge – where it was thrown into the river.

The In Bloom team, using a hastily assembled rope and DIY hook, have now recovered the bike and are trying to stay philosophical about the Otley Show day ‘mischief’.

I visit a place in Germany on business quite regularly, Neuenburg am Rhein (Newcastle on Rhine), the town council there use bikes fitted with front baskets, panniers and rack top bags around town as flower planters, they look good.

Sorry no pictures.
