i'm billeted in a hotel tomorrow night (campanile, leicester) and it's the one night i'll have to re-cable the brakes on my best bike.

i'd prefer to do it indoors, as it's not a messy job.

do you think i'd get away with telling the hotel it's worth thousands (it isn't) and needs to be locked in the room with me? i'm assuming any member of staff with enough cycling savvy to know the bike isn't a top notch carbon racing thoroughbred would be sympathetic…

Have you got a bike bag? If it just looks like oversized luggage, they'll never know.

I dunno if the hotel has bike parking, if not, or if it's not very good, then you've got a good case for having the bike in the room - they wouldn't expect guests to leave a suitcase in the car park.

I use Travelodge as they simply allow bikes in...... the only time they didn't was when the girl asked if rather than take them upstairs, the bikes would like their own room - free of charge!

How about riding through reception. That could liven things up on an otherwise dull night perhaps.

i could do that nt. always wonder why a bike that rides on clean roads will have dirtier tyres than a push chair that dodges the dog poo on the pavement...

I look at it as not so much being dirtier but just being respectful.

If I had a pushchair I'd be the sort of bloke who would lift the chair and baby out to carry and fold the wheelie bit when on someone elses carpets.

I've taken my fully loaded tourer into a few hotel rooms, including taking it up in the lift at a Crowne Plaza. Everywhere has been very accommodating.

We stayed in that hotel a couple of week ago

They have two bike racks right outside the front door which has a couple of German touring bikes parked over the weekend we were there.
Rooms start on the 1st floor and no way would you get a bike in the lift

I don't think they would be very keen on you taking the bike up, but the reception is big enough for a bit of bike fettling

I work on the principle that my bike has two wheels on the deck, and is clean.

Would they stop a wheelchair coming in which has four wheels, and been wheeled through the muck and rain?

Well, that's what I'd ask if anyone had any quibbles...

If challenged look at the bike all perplexed, like, and say "My baby, my baby what have you done with my baby?" - they'll leave you alone , then...
