We are 4 friends who plan to bike Bilbao to Barcelona in September next year and are looking for a nice route. Any recommendations? We will have to do the trip in about 7+ days with a pace of about 120 km a day (less if much climbing). We will use hybrid cycles and sleep in hotels.

Have got the Harry Dowdell Cycle Touring in Spain and think that the Pyrenees tour from San Sebastian looks interesting. Is there a way to take bikes with public transport from Bilbao (airport or city) to San Sebastian?
How about public transport for bicycles from Girona to Barcelona?

Thanks!

120km is tough if it's still hot.

You can catch the Euskotren train from San Sebastian to Bilbao.

You can catch a train from downtown BCN direct to Girona with bikes. Estacion Sants, every hour, you can't take bikes on the fast AVE service. There is also another, slower, cheaper, train than goes along the scenic coast, but you need to change once near Blanes. This is a nice trip.

If I was going to Barcelona I'd go along the French side of the Pyrenean border then cross back at the Perpignan end. You'll need low gears but the scenery and climate is better on the French side in my experience.

You could attempt the 'Raid Pyrénéen' and maybe earn a medal.
