And the bike wins, by the look of it (no sound on this PC). What a surprise!

Opening statement by the reformed car salesman (wasn't he convicted of something once?) "We pay road tax to own one".

I was late to my lectures this morning because I saw the first bit and wanted to see the outcome!

I knew the bike would win as I know the route well. It was predictable that the car would be ahead until Selly Oak when the road narrows and traffic gets slowed by all the pedestrian red lights as students cross. Personally I'm not a fan of the bit between Northfield and Selly Oak triangle for the "hills" and that would lose me a lot of time in a race.

As User says, I'd have liked to have seen the relative speeds on the bit between the Gunbarrels and McDonalds/Bristol St. I'm sure the car should start to catch up at that point.

And there is Bob in his car upto two hours to do 10 miles...... at one point (early in the show) - "sat here 45 minutes, done 1 mile" - just as a bike whizzes past.....

Yeah that's prob about 9.30 - 10am ish isn't it ?
I know that Northfield - Selly Oak doesn't really get too busy unless somethings happened and it's all uphill. Was a bit suprised the bike got to Selly Oak at the same time though.
I used to do Selly Oak - Uni - Gun Barrells and left there and It used to take about 10 mins in rush hour to do what 3/4 mile ?

It is a known problem that Portishead has one main road out which comes to a standstill. Problem is that 10 miles sounds like a long way to start with on a bike - they really need that train line to be re-opened (so Bob's neighbours can take the train leaving the road empty for him:biggrin:).

The only slog really is the bit past the college (and the Doctors set) after Bournville lane.

Good point - I always think that the Northfield to Bournville is up uphill but really from Northfield Traffic lights to just past the college is flat and downhill so yeah I suppose the only hill is from just past college to the Island at the top.

45 mins to do 1 mile but did he not do the remaining 9 in 30 mins ?!

And even at the end he said on a good day 30 mins to do 10 miles. It takes me 45 mins to do 7 round Brum which is why I try to bike cause I can do it in 40 mins easily.

Obviously If I leave home at 7am in the car it's 25 mins but to be fair anytime after 7.30am apart from in the school hols is gonna take 45 mins

He would never do it in 30 mins at rush hour, that will be at some off peak time.

Strange time to show a programme about traffic jams (9:15am) when everyone watching is sat at home not affected by them

They need to put it on at peak time like on the 'One Show' or something.
