As long as I breathe, I attack.
Once took me 9 hours from dawlish to home cus of an RTC on the M6 that back logged the entire northbound motorway network

On Friday it took 8 hours from Plymouth to Nottingham. Should have taken 4 hours.
There was a load of traffic heading north, I suppose they'd seen the forecast and decided to get home before the weekend.
With these traffic levels you just need one little bump, never mind the serious accident that occurred.

Friday was the first time in about 10 years that I've had a nightmare of a journey. That's quite good really.

I am not blaming the people there but just its road structure. Rant over.
It's not the road structure, it's the people who use it in private cars. And successive governments which have failed to provide us with an efficient public transport system, but that's what the people voted for, so that takes us back to the people:sad:.

So there![/QUOTE]
Birmingham is, without doubt, the finest city in Britain. It has the best Indian takeaways, the best symphony orchestra and the best railway connections.

It does seem to be rather Plod free.

As an aside I don't think Susie Dent has spotted this lovely word yet:

shunpiking

Literally the avoidance of turnpikes.
Nothing to do with the Traveler community then?

(vague etymological wondering: What's the root of the term "Pikey"? Any connection with travelling along (turnpike) roads?)

I was on the M6 on Friday, it was unusually and exceptionally busy, the V Festival was on which probably explains some of the extra traffic, there are at the moment major roadworks around junction 18 which doesn't help matters, the crap weather wasn't helping as well. Coventry Warrington two and a half hours, Warrington Coventry two hours. When its running as it should it aint bad, but most of the time its running over capacity and it don't take a lot to bring it to a standstill.

Fair enough but it is still known as the Birmingham area.
