Not just a cake but a full spread at my work! Some people literally spend about £50-60. First place I've ever worked where they do this but if you don't you get found out.
I've done it in a past job, and used to find it a mixture of nice and pressure as I used to make it myself. Now there is no pressure but I might go for a coffee and cake with a work colleague.
Yes it had been the office 'tradition' in all the places both myself and my husband have worked. Being allergic to dairy and having a birthday over Christmas to the New Year period is have however been exceptionally grateful because most companies in have worked for have closed down over this period and I would get away without people knowing. My oh on the otherhand usually takes the entire week off, and on one occasion 2 weeks off for his calling it his easter holiday!
Yep, here too and everywhere I've worked in the past. My mother says it was common place in the typing pool in the 50's so it seems as though its nothing new.
