We celebrate everyone's birthday with a card and a bottle of wine (to take home).
The birthday boy or girl usually buys cakes for everyone (20 people)

This year, I took the day off and no-one noticed why. Suits me just fine. I think I got away with it.

At out place it is usual for the birthday celibrant to bring in something for everyone, given that there are about 50 of us, a couple of bags of fun sized sweets was the generally agreed norm. Then some nobber decided to bring in full sized choccie bars, and that seems to have started some kind of arms race. Come my birthday it's back to fun sized.

I generally try to book the whole week off... no one should work on their birthday. In fact, it should be our 9th paid bank holiday... and i managed to wangle that with one employer!

My dad used to say "every days your birthday...."he was right and wrong all at the same time.

These days birthdays are an anticlimax!

We studiously ignore birthdays in work. Miserable buggers eh?

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Person whos birthday it is generally brings in a few packet s of cheap cakes for immediate work colleagues, 27 in our group .
We dont get official company or send cards as there are about 3000 employees.
I tend to take some stuff in at x mas when i have the car on a night shift , normally friday nights with a 3 am finish as its a bit hard to carry that many cakes in panniers along with all the other bits i take.

I don't take the day off unless it falls on the weekend, although we do like to do something special for each others birthdays. Not really all that fussed unless it is a biggie. We spent my 40'th in St Lucia.

I have no idea where it came from but in our office its tradition to bring cake in on your birthday for the rest of the office, being a humbug person i never bother with it , i didnt even tell them it was my 50th this year but they found out the day after and i ended with a gift token for the LBS and a card so i might get a cpl of doughnuts next year for them to share.

I'm out of the main office, so don't get involved in the birthday boy/girl buying cakes. Which is good as it's not good for the waist with about 100 in the main office (and expensive).

I usually take the day off on my birthday. But I'm in a new job now so not sure what we'll do on other people's birthdays? I'd imagine it's a good excuse for pizza and beers. I have no idea why anyone would bring cakes or sweets in for other people on their own birthdays, that's bizarre!

Cakes must be supplied to the rest of the office on the workday closest to your birthday.

  • No exceptions.

  • Savoury snacks do not count.

  • Cake quality is unimportant.

Fail to do this and I suspect your name goes to the top of the list of candidates for redundancy.

Also we get a £10 Boots voucher and a card.
