I want to put a camera up high by securing some tubing to my pannier rack so the camera is up about 6 feet in air. This is for a video where I wish to demonstrate proper signalling techniques. I've looked at the usual suspects (DIY stores) but the tubing and pipes they sell are both too heavy and flexible. I think carbon tubing would be a safer bet for a clear image.

Anyone know where to get some? I'd like to put a flag at the top too. Colour isnt too important though I will probably either paint or cover it with coloured/reflective tape.

Fishing pole?

As above, fishing rod would probably be your best bet.
Or, a landing net handle may be an easy (and cheap) solution. I doubt you'll get a carbon one but you should get a fibreglass one cheap. I have one that is very light & strong, and was < £10.00 IIRC

Aren't fishing rods designed to be flexible? Would camera end up waving about a bit?
K.I.S.S. - broomhandle, or something like a pole for roller painting ceilings (think you can get extendable ones) assuming it isn't going to be a permanent fixture on the bike.

Oh, and don't forget height restrictions when you get sorted

Landing net handles might be different. Just found a load of cheap ones at a local shop me Father used to use:

I might shimmy down there and have a look later. I wont be going anywhere where it will be too much of a problem. I plan to put the flag at face level to remind me, too.

I'd imagine a landing net handle would be perfect, they're designed to be stiff but light.
Do you have a Decathlon near you? they do some cheap, good quality landing net handles there.

Oh, and of course all landing net handles have a standard sized thread on the end (sorry can't remember what that is, Google will reveal all) so you could probably get a simple, removeable mounting plate knocked up cheaply somewhere?

EDIT: Couldn't resist a quick look, it's a 3/8" threaded hole.

You could always hire this guy to stand on your rack:

But perhaps not this guy:
