This week (admittedly tube strike day) in London we drove in to the office as normal with the roof down as it was pleasant.....

An effective (almost) pinch point in that it was a left and immediate right where there is a cycle lane on the right- one way section - and just before the 'pinch point' high vis commuter rides up the right (we had been neck and neck for a bit) so I give him loads of room due to upcoming left/right and Rhs cycle lane!

Lo and behold another classic 'shopper style' woman comes strolling up my LHS as I give him room and I politely (genuinely) suggest that 'it is really tricky if you try and pass on both sides...' - I stress, roof down so eye contact and totally soft and reasonable....

"THE CYCLE LANE IS ON THE LEFT AND GIVE ME ROOM!"

I started to answer and just thought 'why bother' .......?

BTW, no left marked cycle lane and even on a Boris Bike I do what the old fella did and go on the right here AS IT IS BLEEDING OBVIOUS!

Now the point is that we probably all think we are always right (I know i always am :smile:) but come on, what should I have done? :sad: continued and explained or??? (She was never going to listen.....)

And people wonder why there is such a disconnect between (only) drivers and us cyclists (the majority of which also drive and pass tests, pay for the roads etc)

As you said 'why bother' with an answer. You just can't tell some people. She obviously can't see further than her front wheel! Unfortunately, natural selection will probably give her an object lesson.

Sorry, that may have come out slightly wrong.... It was (hopefully) meant to be clearly a dig at the idiot drivers who go down the 'you don't even pay road tax' route! I even read it again and figured it was clear and couldn't possibly cause offence :smile:

And I do actually know a couple who claim to have 'stepped off' and claim to be 'Freegans' and foragers etc. (no car and neither is in paid employment as such so the tax take from them is minimal.... :smile: (the obviously cycle on up cycled bikes!)

I'm losing faith that the moronic dullards that swill around this country will ever think much more than limbically.

Therefore everyone will always be right, will video each other not being right, spend their time arguing and bitching on you tube about it...

It's like Neanderthals with go pros.

I can't wait for the mother ship to return and take me back to my home planet...

Possibly in the greater scheme of things [if they don't use a car] most of them. Why ?
OK all road spending is financed by treasury money goes in from all sources - money from cyclist = incom tax - money from motorist = income tax + tax on fuel [huge] tax on spares [huge] tax paid by ALL those employed by the motor industry, this must include garage employees and car plant workers etc [huge] tax paid by importers and exporters of vehicles [huge]. Money collected from fines [a lot and I believe NOT really intended to make the roads safer but TBH more to make even more money]. The road tax [call it what you want] is really quite irrelevant. either for or against the "who pays for the roads" argument.
Take away the income from this lot and there would be no roads, or I suspect a viable economy either.
OK I am now going into hiding in the outer desert regions.

Private motoring is a net drain on the economy, it enjoys huge subsidies.

Why are you taking into account every single money related thing for the motorist, and limiting the cyclist to 'income tax'? Surprised you didn't include tax from buying scotch eggs at the services.

Is something so utterly disgusting considered a luxury 'food' (term used very loosely for anything containing cold egg) and thus vatable?
