Came off my bike this morning, i was going up a small hill and suddenly hit some black ice. Felt the rear wheel is losing control, and can’t recover from it, so decided the felt on the left hand side.
I'm so glad I'm a slow cyclist and there was no car behind me.

A colleague of mine felt off his bike on the same stretch of road his morning and I think he injured his elbow.

Came off my bike on the ice this morning as well ;) I managed to hit my cheek bone just below my left eye on the ground so came home to recuperate. Not checked the bike yet but I suspect that some adjustments will be necessary. All in all (riding, falling and walking home) I covered 6.6 miles in 50 minutes with a maximum speed of 16.2 mph. It all still counts on cyclogs

Oh bugger... glad not too bad.

I took it very easy this morning - no grit to be seen

I'm fine, I was doing only 5mph or so at the time, I even had time to think which side to fall on to.
Left is good as it wont damage the rear mechs....

Glad everyone's reasonably OK. Ice isn't nice to hit unexpectedly; after rather a few ice-related falls in the last two winters, I decided that riding to work today might not be the wisest move so wimped out and got the bus.

Glad I did though - a number of Amazon packages arrived for me at work this morning so at least I'll be able to carry them home in one go!

Commiserations to the fallers.

Not too icy down here today, though there was some frost and stuff. I took it extra careful this morning even so and was OK.

However, I did manage to nearly go down in the mud on the way home last night, through some woods: steepish downhill going left, front wheel hit a middle sized stick buried in the leaves and kicked out. I managed to get a foot down and ended up straddling the top tube but the bike still wanted to fall over so I ended up nearly tripping over it.

I just about managed to keep my feet: though out in the middle of nowhere in the dark with nobody about at least it wouldn't even have been that embarassing.

Took the slicked MTB today as it did look slippery, i had forgotten how twitchy it is

and from sheldon brown .........

"In the absence of studded tires for frozen lakes without a snow crust, slick tires are better than ones with miniature automobile tread because they give more contact surface, thereby reducing contact pressure and slip."

My mate had a big off at 19 mph just the other day. Bike just went from under him on his 40 mile commute to work. Two cycling tops damaged, sore wrist and elbow at the time.
Thankfully hes straight back on the bike and still training for his third iron man.
