I've just been given a new BB Pearl 8110 to replace my old 8100. There are a couple of things about it, which don't work the same as on the old version.

1 - It refuses to Bluetooth automatically to the car when I turn on the ignition. Any suggestions?

2 - I want to set one of the preloaded pictures as background for the home screen but all the pics have a little padlock symbol and refuse to attribute. Any ideas?

It also has fewer ring tones and notifiers, which means I've lost my little bike horn sound for incoming texts. Grrr!

I got rid of mine. No more late night e-mails. No ruined train journeys. No more being traced and accountable when I don't want to be. I hate 'em.

I find it extremely useful when I'm overseas on trips.

They are definitely very useful RR. But they can have a downside for some. For me it was not being able to leave the job at work. It was also very useful for C+ posting (as it was) whilst in airport lounges and on trains! I now have more of a divide between home and work which was otherwise very difficult to manage, as work (especially overseas) didn't realise you went home at 6.00-7.00 pm and carried on mailing and calling regardless. I once took a call at 1.00 am the day after my second son was born. I knew then it had gone too far.

Heard on a Radio 4 comedy recently: "Tired of not being able to press the tiny buttons with old fingers, he's invented a Blackberry with bigger buttons for older people, and called it the Elderberry."

Why didn't you just switch it off at nights? I do.

It's not called a Crackberry for nothing.:evil:

There was also an expectation from work that you would be available 24-7. Fortunately I don't work for them any more. My new firm offered me one but I declined.

I have a Samsung crackberry thing. It's great, and i don't use it for anything more than a regular phone. The Qwerty makes texting easy and quick, and I can get the wireless web etc. I just don't link up the outlook or whatever so I'm not bothered by work. If they really want to bother me they'll call, whether it's a blackberry or not. they don't have to ruin your life!

Is Bluetooth turned on? (check "Manage Connections")
What happens if you do a scan while in the car with the ignition on? (Manage Connections -> Set up Bluetooth -> Search)

If you have a ford I can probably help out a little more (PM me)

The little padlock symbol just means that you can't delete the picture as they are ones that come with the device, you should still be able to use it wallpaper though.. Is this a work blackberry? your IT department might have restricted you from changing the home screen background...

if you've got your old blackberry, you can copy them off on to the new one using the desktop manager... otherwise you'll need to download them again.

Cheers

Thanks. Managed to get the car and the BB to Bluetooth by setting the BB to allow it to be found.

I've never dared connect to the Desktop manager - I'm too afraid of messing something up, although I expect this might enable me to resolve the problem. Tell me I should experiment!

Well, it'll let you download your ring tones or music on to the phone if you want... sure you should experiment!
