Has anybody noticed an increase in the number of cars running about with tinted or blacked out back and rear passenger windows? I thought I was imagining it then my next door neighbour pulls up in his Focus and he'd had it done. I asked him why and he looked at me like I was stupid and said " It's the mobile innit" Turns out 2 other blokes where he works have had it done for the same reason. If you are on the phone while you're driving it's much harder for a copper to spot you unless they are alongside you.
I don't know why he bothered. There are so few police around here lately that the odds on you getting a pull are enormous.

He has to be careful of the tint in the front side windows especially. Tbh I hate being in c car with them especially at night as visibility is so poor

Police here clamped down on these windows.

They have made drivers peel off the covering or stopped them driving the vehicle when the widows have failed transmission tests.

Rear back and rear side can be pretty dark, they changed recently for the driver/passenger side to make it tighter.

Although, manufactures aren't helping it with new cars coming with insanely dark rear sets of tints. Just like fog lights, manufacters only sell them because its cool (why else would it be in the advertising blurb... "with alloys and fog lights as standard")

I had a car with tinted windows and it made little or no difference to the visibility. They were properly done from new (no I didn't buy the car new, it was a G-reg Skoda Rapid)

They did look pretty dark , though they weren't BLACK (You lock me in the cellar and feed me pins)

I don't think that they are all bad, though I know someone who tinted their own van rear windows with black spray paint, it depends on the job done.

I'll always tint the rear windows in any car I have. If its done properly then there shouldn't be a reduction in visability but it does help reduce the temperature in the car and many of them also reduce UV.

Most new cars that are coming onto the market now seem to have "privacy tinted windows" fitted to the rear of the car. It's the "in" thing i guess.
It's when the front passenger and drivers side windows that are heavily tinted it gets worrying.

The same. Have them in my Citroen C8. That's a lot of glass on a hot day with 3 kids in the back. Tints make sense and so do the adfditional window blinds.

I think we have a winner of 'Tard Of The Week Award right here ... has he not heard of a "handsfree kit"? Surely that's a safer and more convenient solution than blacking out the windows of his car? Or perhaps he could just not answer the phone while driving?

Mine has tinted windows from the rear doors back. modern german hatchback. I like the fact that it means people cannot see in and spot innocent empty plastic bags on the bag seat, decide it might contain £1000 in cash an break in.

It is not obscenely dark, and as the car is black it all blends in. The front door windows are 100% clear.

It doesnt affect rear visibilty in my view

The rear windows on my car have been removed altogether and plated over with steel.

You are the A-Team, and I claim my five pounds.

Rear tints - arg - a pain in the backside for other people, as you can't see through them to see the road, as you can with "normal" windows. Even worse on people carriers and urban assault vehicles becuase they're so bloody high. At least we can look over the tops of cars.
