Having recently come back from a holiday to Orlando and seeing the Seaworld shows, I was intrigued to watch the documentary 'Blackfish'

I just watched it !

Must say, I almost feel guilty for attending the show now after seeing how these whales are treated and what goes on behind the scenes.

To be honest with you., I would never go to one of those shows. I don't need a documentary to tell me that keeping whales in captivity is a bad thing.

I took my 8yr old daughter as it's probably the only chance she'll get to see one up close but even she was questioning why their fins were flopped over etc
Really is disgusting how they're kept.

On my first overseas trip 30 years ago to visit relatives I was taken along to one of these shows. I was too polite at the time to say what I thought of it to my hosts, but would imagine they got the message from my lack of enthusiasm.
I signed up for a whale spotting cruise while cycle touring in Iceland mainly because I needed a rest from cycling rather than any great inclination to disturb whales in the wild. I was quite happy not to get within half a mile of the whales, but did enjoy the drinking chocolate they were serving up on the boat!
Although I have to admit to still getting a certain pleasure in being approached by dolphins and porpoises at sea and listening to their whistles when down below in the boat, .

There's plenty of opportinities to see them in their natural environment off the Pacific Northwest Coast.

Seaworld have been banned from continuing their captive breeding program and their profits have plummeted in the past few years.

If you think that is bad search for Lolita on youtube and watch the documentary about her, and then watch The Cove. SeaWorld is just the tip of the iceberg. A colleague of mine recently went to SeaWorld. If she wasn't a colleague I would have made it very clear that if she continued in her quest to go, our friendship would be over, I feel that strongly about it. If I ever leave that place she will be the first person I de-friend on Facebook and I'll make it very clear why to everyone else. For the moment,I will just continue to tag her in on every Sea Shepherd and Lolita or Sea World campaign I get.

It's not like she's not aware, she admitted to me she was but still wanted to go.
