Does anyone ride this route staying an the south side of the Tyne? If so, what are the roads like? Is it better to go through Ryton or up what looks like a bypass?
I'm thinking of having a go at this tomorrow but would appreciate any tips from people who have experience of these roads.

Thanks in advance.

That goes right past where I grew up. I'd go through Ryton along the main road and avoid the bypass, a bit more scenic and flatter. You could also drop down to the old village in Ryton from the main road when you get to the top of Stella bank then back up to the main road if you want. The village green & cross is nice and the first penny bank in England - white house opposite green (supposedly) as well as a few old houses next to the Church (~12 century and worth a quick look).

There is a similar bypass round Prudhoe. I'd probably avoid the bypass (good road, but a bit boring), but riding through the center of Prudhoe isn't too attractive either.

Road to Hexham goes through some nice villages, possibly via Corbridge?
