Just rode up to Enfield to watch Ireland Wales with a mate - turned out he wasn't there (ill...could've let me know you taff twit!) so turned round and came back. All the way there on the fixie the only limit was how fast my legs could spin, but yeGods, the way back....like riding in treacle dragging half a ton of spuds. Only five or six miles but I'm absolutely four-letter-worded.

I went out a few hours ago and it was like riding with the brakes on .

I have been at work all day and the morning was as calm as anything. By the time I got home there was a bit of rain in the air coming at me horizontally. The wind was right up again and we have laid down the bird tables again. It saves them falling. I have decided against going for a ride and am huddled up on the sofa.

High winds here (yellow Met Office warning for Warwick). i was watching the weather earlier and thinking that storm that looks like a hurricane, that's right over Britain, kinda reminded me of the storm that's been on jupiter for all of eternity

We can empathise with that, went out on the fixed [what else], on the first gentle uphill, not warmed up we are cruising at over 18 mph without effort, guess which way the wind was blowing? When the side wind hit with gusts of well over 40 mph it was an interesting to see dr_pink leaning one way and the bike completely the opposite. The real fun began however when we headed directly into what felt was a physical barrier on a nearly 2 mile climb. I made a huge mistake earlier by raising dr_pink's saddle by 11mm, I just made her quicker, sigh. 21 miles, it was enough.

We have had the same road closed twice today with fallen trees, wasn't worth the risk getting the bike out today..........lets see what its like tomorrow, but forecast doesn't look promising.

Did a 40-mile out-and-back ride ...

Out: 12 miles of strong cross-winds, 8 miles of strong headwinds
Back: 8 miles of strong tailwinds - yay!, 12 miles of strong headwinds - doh!

I went up Wessenden Head and did just over 50 miles: http://www.strava.com/activities/111900078

Bad idea. The headwind going uphill meant it was a hard slog.

But the crosswind coming down the other side to Holmfirth was just plain dangerous.
You've gotta be a bit of a cycling addict to do 50 miles in today's winds. I was having a look at my car earlier, and the wind repeatedly closed the bonnet against the force of the gas strut keeping it open. Later on when I forgot to put the handbrake on a gust of wind moved the car backwards about a foot.

Great Rollright in the cotswolds was the original ride destination this morning, looking at the tree's being blown horizontal I recon somewhere nearer is more sensible, I don't go well in high winds, probably lack of power, it slows me down more than most.
