Houtkop isn't an RSA derivative nickname? I was kidding on the van der Merwe btw, mine isn't either, but I'm a *real* Dutchman. That should make any saffas laugh.

Nope, it seems I'm not a film star yet...

why do i need to actually view the footage in a thread that clearly states 'bad motorist!' or 'was i in the wrong' blah blah?

Nothing in that footage that I haven't come across on my daily commute into London, certainly not enough to make me give them a second thought. Yes, there are bad drivers out there, but there are equally bad cyclists and pedestrians too. TrustySteed makes a valid point in that there is definitely a 'us and them' mentality between cyclists and motorists which is probably exacerbated by posts like this one. Somebody is either competent or they're not, regardless of whether they are walking, cycling or driving. How many of us would admit to being a bad cyclist or driver? Probably not many if at all.

Shouldn't Sh4rkyBloke be posting footage of bad cycling as well to educate us all in examples of blind, aggressive, shortsighted... or just stupid cyclists?

Two trolls :mrpig::troll:

You've only made 2 posts one here Kelsen.
Are you new to cycling?

First driver is a bad case of the bike in his lane and the car in his...that type of driver wouldn't even have noticed anything wrong.

On the second one the driver would have done exactly the same manoeuvre whatever was approaching any car or lorry- they were there first so they wouldn't see a problem. Ironically if I was in my car I'd not have been as bothered as I would be on my bike.... for me it's related to the effort required to get back up to speed again.

The third one isn't a problem as far as I can see- clear road and no confrontation intended- just trying to make progress [and got caught at lights when they'd probably hoped to get through]... in a hurry and a bit fast maybe for a 30 but OK for a 40?

Whilst the first two were pretty crap, but I don't see a problem with the third overtake.

From the video angle, they could not have even see the lights when they started the overtaking manoeuvre which was already under way at the start of that scene at 42 secs. Even if they could have seen the traffic lights, when they first appear evident in the video at 47 secs, they are only amber, changing to red at about 49 seconds.

Sitting in the ASL is a crap trick.

In that first one the cycle lane seems very narrow compared to the ones we have around here.

Second was just stupid, I sometimes think certain motorists totally underestimate the speed we can do.

Lastly I would agree that the guy may not have seen the lights. But if he was driving within the speed limit he could have stopped on the line.

i don't think it is. it seems that there are quite a few people here who feel the need to film their commute every day in the hope of finding an example of bad drivinganti-cyclist behaviour so that they can upload it on here and say 'oo look how bad these motorists are' and expect everybody else to agree and say 'ooo, you're right, isn't it awful'

i include yourself and magnatom in that category, and was querying whether sh4rkybloke was another who is more interested in finding other road-user flaws rather than just enjoying being on a bike.

so my question stands, do you lot ever just enjoy riding your bike?

This is why I wouldn't invest in a camera - shoot happens driving and Cycling and I don't need to be reminded of it.

I do pretty much as much shouting as you though so if we ever get Modern Warfare 6 on the PS3 it should be a good laugh !!
