Just the one "incident" this morning... and I wait with baited breath to hear how it could have been avoided (please, someone tell me what I could have done differently!).

Blind driver

Obviously no apology... well, clearly I'm invisible! ;)

Bad driving, but, and this is actually serious , she may have misinterpreted your line of travel. You were heading for the cycle lane, and so it might have made it look as if you were crossing the main road into the mini's junction. Once committed the mini driver felt compelled to continue.

Lessons to learn:

a) Don't use cycle lanes...;)
B) If you're the driver, wait until you are sure where the bike is going
c) Use cycle lanes, if you want to avoid hassle on web forums
d) Get a car

I think that about covers it!

I get this sort of thing a lot. Mostly I think it's not about being blind, it's about not giving a monkeys 'cos you're "just a bike".

Just out of interest Sh4rkyBloke, I'm wondering what signalling you made during the manoeuvre?
Right arm out when approaching the junction (thought there was a car approaching from behind)... but nothing *during* the manoeuvre as I was busy holding the handlebars. My bike and body were turning so no excuse for assuming I was going straight over the junction (not that she should be assuming anything!)... just not looking properly/at all. ;)

Most of the time, I don't think it's that drivers don't "care", but that they just don't realise that a bike:

1) has velocity
2) occupies space

I don't know. I get plenty of people in side-roads that look me in the eye and then pull out onto the main road in front of me and I can be pretty damn close when this occurs.

Inertia

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
I dont think you could have done anyhing different, I do think some drivers just dont pay attention no matter what you drive/ride. Ive been cut up before, driven into from behind once, and almost had a car drive into the side of me by entering a roundabout as I was passing them.

Each time I was in a car xx(

I disagree.

I've said it before someplace, they see you just fine, but know that the risk to them is minimal (a small dent at worst) and as the risk to you is 1000 times worse, then you will swerve or stop to ensure they get away with it. It happens to me a lot on chitty and on the loud bike.

unfortunatley people see us 2 wheel riders as a minimal risk to them.

If you were a 60 tonne truck, you can bet my house that they wouldn't pull out.

All too common. There are endless combinations of
1 Didn't see you
2 Saw you, couldn't give a fig
3 Saw you, didn't see you as a threat even to the paintwork
4 Saw you, didn't know WTF it was so ignored it and hoped it would go away
5 Handed responsibility over to you to look after yourself on the road, that's what all vulnerable road users are for
6 Saw you and the camera and hoped for a moment or two on youtube.

etc

etc:biggrin:

Classic case of the silly bint pulling out on you because you are only on a bike. There is no way they would have done that if you were in a car or truck.
