Blood Tests and Biopsy Results

Sorry I have yet more questions.
Can anyone give me an indication of how long it can take for my doctor to get the results of my blood test.
Its been two weeks since I gave the sample and I was told that if there were any issues they would contact me.
So can I break out the champagne because they haven't or should I contact them.
This week I had an endoscopy and after being told my stomach was inflamed they did a biopsy so the other question is how long can I expect to wait for the results of that.
It seems to be a bit more than an attack of anxiety than they initially diagnosed me having.

Try again, call surgery as above for both blood test results and to ask how long for the biopsy test, good luck with the results and think positive:thumbsup:

Depends on the test. The more specialist stuff can take literally months although that's quite rare, a couple of weeks is more usual. A lot of tests are done weekly so if your sample missed the batch it may have to wait till the next one. Expect biopsies to take longer than blood tests. Phone the GP up and if they haven't got the result yet they can call the lab and ask for the turnaround time.

Bloods are usually 5 days at my Dr's and if I don't hear from them then they are usually ok, but not always. However, if there is a serious issue with them, i have always heard back inside 2-3 days and that is in both the form of a telephone call (message on voicemail) plus an letter to follow up.

Thanks again everyone.

Who asked for the tests?

The GP should have access within 24, or certainly 48 hours

However if the Consultant has asked for a series of tests then quite often they will wait for the completion of all the tests before getting back to you

This is because if test A is positive and test B is positive there is a different outcome than if test B was negative

This can mean delays

The safety margin of calling you if there is an adverse finding does not always apply though

If there was a routine test that shows a disase then yes you would be called back in immediately as an unexpected finding

However if the test shows something adverse that is already known about, then the finding is expected and this process would not kick in necessarily

Best thing to do is ring whoever asked for the tests

Thanks again everyone. I have rung the surgery today and been told that they are still waiting to receive the consultants report.
I am clinging onto the no news is good news adage for now.

Just received a phone call at home from my doctor informing me that my blood and urine tests have not shown anything evil going on. He said that he as asked the consultant to contact me as soon as possible because he knows that I am anxious to know the results. He did add that it would appear acid is leaking from my small intestine
into my stomach and that is why the consultant carried out a biopsy and took photographs. So its still more waiting then.

No evil is good news, hope the consultant can put your mind at rest
