Coming back form town this morning with a carier bag on my right wrist, I was positioned on the right hand lane of the road, intending to turn right at the roundabout ahead, after passing a set of lights.
Now, judging from my position, anyone would have thought my intentions were to turn right. I was still too far from the roundabout to actually signal right .
I suddenly heard this persistent horn from a bus behind me and the driver gesticulating to move over.
Like hell I did! I stayed where I was and he passed me on the left as he intended to turn left at the roundabout.
As it happened, the lights were on red so he had to stop. I pulled up alongside him. He opened his side window and started telling I should have signalled and shouldn't be on the road.
As I was already in my lane before he caught up with me, I told him there was no need to signal at this stage and he should have his eyes tested.
The lights then changed to green and we both went on our way, him left, me right.
Good driving is all about anticipation and planning ahead. If he had followed these two simple rules, he would have known where I intended to go and he would have passed me on the left with no trouble.

Good for you! And always good to hear of the insult 'you need your eyes tested', far more effective than a stream of abuse

A lot of us have to take primary at times, and for the vast majority of times its ok, but every so often....

I'd suggest that riding with a carrier bag on your right wrist is not exactly a safe practice. It might even reduce your ability to signal effectively.

What's the significance of the carrier bag in the tale? Was it too heavy for you to lift your arm to signal?

edit - sorry, Vern, same point made!
