With more being known about the surface of the moon than of the Oceans, I do wonder what else is down there, waiting to be discovered/caught on camera for the first time, etc etc.
I went to the Darwin Centre at the Natural History Museum a few years ago - they used to do these free tours with only 6 people on them, though I believe it's changed a lot now. Anyway, rows and rows and rows and rows and rows and rows of little jars of formaldehyde with so many as-yet-unnamed species in them, all from the deep ocean. It really is like another planet's worth down there.
Then felt I like some watcher of the skies
When a new planet swims into his ken;
Or like stout Cortez when with eagle eyes
He stared at the Pacific -
...only with more formaldehyde. They have to have a special ventilation system to prevent the staff getting drunk on the vapours.
I would love to have a go on one of them there deep-sea submersibles. A bit terrifying though.
