There are compensations. I defy anybody returning home and passing from the Broadway to the Bec after a long run to not order a curry when they get home.

Barely a week passes when I do not succumb. I cry tears of ghee when I get forced to go to a posher French restaurant in Wandsworth...

I remember your warning, Matt. You turned off early that night, I recall, when you used to cycle all the way down to near Colliers Wood for an extra bit of mileage.

I sort of had a third sense about it a couple of months back and started bypassing Tooting by turning off at Clapham South and going through Wimbledon, in the evening rush hour. Should have trusted my judgement and stuck to it. Although roads are very narrow that way.

Glad you were not seriously hurt. I'm still going down there, but it's the only place where I turn the power of my front light up!

Your planning some acrobatics then?

Hopefully not, but if I do, I'd like to have it on film for posterity and my fellow CCers.

Horrible stretch of road. I think I head that way on my commute (Bromley <> Chiswick) and have been getting that odd tingle of apprehension recently. For last few days, I've been heading home through Battersea instead.

Glad you're ok.
