No, this isn't another rant at them, just to say thanks to two who I see most nights. One has followed me around some tight bends and always leaves plenty of room for me, doesn't try to push her way through and last night even said thanks through the window for waving her on. Either she likes the look of my lycra clad bum or the Marmite shirt makes her smile.

And the other BMW driver comes down a narrow lane as I'm going up it in granny ring. Not every night, but recently our paths have crossed. He always lets me get past the narrowest bit before coming down slowly, leaving plenty of room.

Thanks people.

PS I don't own a BMW and have no wish to. However, sometimes, the good news has to told, lest we think all drivers are bad 'uns.

Good to hear a good news story!

I drive an Audi, whose drivers have a similar reputation to BMW drivers (albeit slightly less impatient?). To dispel that I've always wanted one of those 'give cyclists room' car stickers. Does anyone have a spare? The guy who did them has shut the website.

I find most people are ok, those is clean, modern cars, though I tend to find, the more it cost the more "Assertive" they are, the prescence of a private plate is a sure fire indicator to suggest that the driver may be an arse, sorry but these preconceptions work when on the roads.

All bets are off though for older, ratty cars, maybe the not arsed factor, maybe they they feel resentment to everyone else for their predicament, or maybe more pond dwellers drive old bangers, never ever trust the driver of a P reg Mondeo held together by duct tape, especially estate versions with broken exhausts, its usually an old flegger doing odd jobs, fag in the corner of his mouth and a bad attitude.

I always give a little wave after a patient one passes because I appreciate it and they deserve a little feedback as next time they may be expecting some acknowledgement, I personally am pleased if someone makes a gesture that suggests they appreciate my driving. Sunday Roadies take note !
