Car lover or not, the underlying problem is that parking spaces are too small, for anything bigger than a small car. It's the attitude of people who design these things that does my head in.

MrWC is thinking about getting a new motor, so the rounds of the car dealers is being done. At a dealership last weekend. Outside in the very full carpark is 'parked' some oversized-testosserterone-infused-load-of-bovine-bowel-movement pick-up thing, spread across two-bays and with a front wheel on the kerb. Cue me wandering into the dealership muttering about how people should not be allowed to breed let alone drive and attempt to park their pr@t-mobile in such an inconsiderate manner. I was not a happy bunny.

And they are always called Warrior or Outlaw or Adventurer, to appeal to their no-neck mouth-breathing drivers.

 The number plate says it all. A knob in a K40 NOB vehicle doing something only selfish knobs would do.

someone may have already pointed it out, but there is no way an X5 could be a K reg vehicle, thus they've either bought the plate to warn other road users or chosen to have it transfered from a previous vehicle.

But.....does anyone else do this ?...i'm not fussed about fessing up, carparks drive me nuts and i'll park with one wheel over the line to dissuade others parking too close.
Why...cos i zarked off with miniscule parking spaces, people dooring my car, careless planks who couldnt give a monkeys about their own car, let alone anyone elses.
I should add....i only do it if there's plenty of free spaces.

Doors open...lambast me if you like

ah, these people annoy me - we have an old suzuki swift that is destined for the scrap heap when it gets to MOT time (i could repair it again to get it through another years but it's not worth it as it will just fail worse next time) so am quite happy to squeeze into the stupidest little spot.

someone had done as you suggest doing while the car park was not full (as shown by the windscreen ticket) and it was the only space left, many people tried and failed to get into the space, I stuck the swift in without touching the offending vehicle or going onto the kerb at the other side but had to get out the passenger side to be sure of not damaging the other vehicle.

came back to find the guy looking very confused on how to get into his car, eventually putting a big dent in my door and bending part of his door in the process and laughing.

I walked over my car's bonnet, got in the passenger side, shuffled across and laughed as his door refused to close due to the edge of it fowling the rear door and left.

don't tell the wife tho, its her car!

i do sometimes wonder if there ought to be an extra test for people wanting to drive a vehicle over a certain length or width

similar to there supposedly being a test for towing - i've been told I can't tow on my license (passed in 2001) yet a summer job involved shunting trailers round a yard day in day out, so probably got more towing experience than the average caravan club member!

it does amaze me how bad people are at parking generally tho, i've seen citroen C1's parked feet from the kerb in a space i wouldn't think twice about putting a mini bus in.

but I am odd, i parallel park more accurately without power steering.

Ah yes...

Animal
Warrior
Invincible
Thunder

What a bunch of t0$$3r-mentality.

Edit: I can appreciate that there are situations where having that sort of *capability* of vehicle would be useful, but it's the mentality behind the marketing/naming .. Bleccch.

The one I like is "Outlaw". Cool ... oh, I observe your "Outlaw" status doesn't preclude you from paying your road tax.
Not that this is a bad thing, you understand.

My newly acquired 2CV has parking sensors, as all 2CVs do. They're called "the wings".

I want a 2CV but can't find one in the right condition for sensible money.

Can I ask about condition / price of yours?

Why are we talking about 4x4's in general ?....most newer parking spaces dont even give me enough room for my Focus....yes, just an ordinary Focus.
If its hard for me to find a safe spot, imagine how hard it is for a Jag or similar.

The thing with the Mitsubishi 4WD's was a tax break for working vehicles, thats why they're popular.
Cant say i like the marketing...'Warrior, Animal etc', but these were working vehicles targeting working men with a job to do, builders and the like, no fuss, maybe no finesse, certainly people who have a macho image of themselves (and i dont mean that in a derogarory way)

If i'm paranoid about a £6K Focus....imagine how someone feels with a £25K car

Wrong!

That used to be true but in recent years it's all been about avoiding company car tax. Get a vehicle on the company that carries a family of passengers but qualifies for low commercial vehicle rates of tax.

Mine was £510, bought unseen from ebay. It has an MOT and is described as "scruffy but sound". If you're prepared to go for a Dyane, they're generally cheaper (despite being better cars, in my opinion), and this one looks pretty good. Or even better ... an Acadiane. Much rarer and more practical.
