I voted to stay put but on mature consideration, because of the queue behind him I would probably have somehow made space for him to get past.

A lot depends on the attitude when BMW driver asked you to move... "I'm very sorry I misjudged the road somewhat, would be very grateful if you could kindly etc etc" would work wonders on me but anything else, well,.. hmm.... I would be making comments about his inability to reverse and lack of a driving licence etc though. There is a lady in an Audi who on a single track road thinks my proper place as a cyclist is crammed into the thorny hedge, as she never waits for me to reach the passing places before launching down the lane.

This happened to my m8 years ago when I was with him, what we did was turn the engine off and the two of us just sat staring at the two guys in the car facing us , the stand off lasted till one of the guys in the other car pointed to a sign to the right of us which said ONE WAY, yes we were going the wrong way up a one way street:ohmy:

To the OP, what does it matter what you and the other driver was driving?

In Commuting you'd wouldn't have gone two CPU ticks before someone pointed out that you don't have right of way, you have priority.

Sadly, that was crossing my mind - but in the sense that if you're going to bamboozle someone (like the Beemer driver) with reference to the Highway Code, it's best to be scrupulously correct....

In a similiar situation the other drivers first comment was "thats a nice new car you wouldnt want to get it scratched" my reply was "its a company car and I dont give a fark" then pointed out that I was 3/4 the way through the "chicance" before he decided to enter and block the road so he could "do one" the driver of the carbehind me gave him a mouthful as well.

He reversed

Lots of this sort of fun in Penistone.
The majority are residents and know the rules, and be polite about it, lots of waves and thankyous. The 'might is right' drivers tend to get put in their place quite rapidly.
I get intimidation attempts in my little Suzuki, but they have the problem that I don't give a stuff.
In this situation I'd have told him what I thought of him, and to go round on the grass himself - and having owned a BMW, I'd have asked him if he enjoyed his last garage bill!

<Top Gear Stylee>Did he just say Penis-stone ? </Top Gear Stylee>

What I did last time it happened to me. Stop the car. Stop the engine. Get out of the car. Lock the doors. Step onto the pavement and walk in the opposite direction.

I live in a one way street where the more anti-social drivers will sometimes drive down the wrong way to cut the corner. It is generally parked on both sides so passing means reversing all the way back. I was walking home when an audi shot around the corner, went down the road the wrong way and met up with a battered corolla going the right way. Audi driver beeps. Corolla driver beeps. Audi driver gets out and says "I'm not moving". Corolla driver switches off the engine, gets out of the car, locks it, says to the Audi driver "neither am I - I live three doors up the road" and sauntered off into his house. Audi driver had to reverse up the road.

On a slightly different note, I was told today that one of the houses next to a school where my wife knows the staff went out of their house to find a big 4x4 on their drive. It was a parent picking up their child - when they returned and the homeowner said you cannot park here, they were given a volley of abuse. People are imbeciles.

if he was in your way, i.,e, on your side of the road in particular if the road have central marking, then he should move., I would not have moved out of the way,

A wooden plank with 6 inch nails hammered through it and then laid across the entrance to the driveway, pointy part of nails facing the sky, at the appropriate time of day might prevent a recurrence.

I'd have stood my ground. Even though I drive one of those so called 'Chelsea Tractors' (not a BMW variant though, since they struggle with wet grass), because it has to drive across muddy fields and is a damn site more comfy on the motorway than a Defender..

.. or you might end up with a 4x4 sitting in your drive with 4 flat tyres:laugh:

I voted 'stand your ground'.

Can't be doing with people like that - as long as I'm sure I'm in the right, I'd have sat there all day if need be.

I'm one of those people who won't even drive around a car park the wrong way if there's a one-way system in place. There's such a car park in Ormskirk and I often come across someone driving round the wrong way - if they come towards me I sit there and wait for them to move. One stubborn so an so drove past me so I put my window down and politely told them there's a one way system in place. They just looked at me as if I had two heads!!!
