I'm eyeing up a Boardman as a new steed for commuting to work come the new year. It's not a long journey - about 2 miles of relaxing towpaths or 3 miles by road. Obviously towpath is the nicer option, so I'm looking at a CX. It's really got to be Halfords because I have a load of Love2Shop vouchers to spend and they're the only bike shop that take them!

I've joined British Cycling to knock another 10% off, but haven't had my membership card through yet. Halfords have started a Boardman sale today - hopefully the same sale is on instore and it'll last until my membership card arrives. That would give me the CX Comp at £405, or the CX Team at £607.

I can just about justify that price for the CX Team, if it's actually £200 better than the CX Comp. What's the concensus of the more knowledgable chaps here?

I was looking at this too. My commute is 6 miles each way.

The Boardman CX Comp has Shimano parts but I personally found the frame 'heavy'.

The Boardman CX team has Sram doubletap Apex on it with a carbon fork. Apex is kind of Tiagra/105 level equivalent if I remember correctly. Its a good bike but for me not a nice paint job and only worth it while it is on sale any more and there are more competitive bikes out there. Plus Sram has an acquired taste.

Halfords can order bikes in from other brands but I am not sure if that only applies to C2W.

Well, I've popped in on my lunch and the same offers are available in store, so my British Cycling discount *should* apply. On that basis, I've ordered the CX Comp. I like the Team, but I can't *quite* justify the extra cash for my first foray back into cycling, especially this side of Christmas. The cash I save by going for the Comp should sort me some of the essentials to go with it, such as lights and panniers.

Fingers crossed my discount card arrives in time. If not, I'll just have to take my membership confirmation email and try to blag it :-)
