Boardman CX Comp?

Hello everyone - am fairly experienced at Cycling but am new to Cyclocross - I've been looking at the Boardman CX Comp and noticed this forum - has anyone got any good and bad experiences regarding the bike? From painful experience I'm aware that not all Halfords staff are quite ready to be Team Sky mechanics just yet but am interested in comments about the bike/ride/equipment etc...

I too am disappointed that the CX Comp has vanished from Halfords but after contacting them I was told that its due to them not expecting the demand and Boardman not being able to keep up! The chap also told me that they were expecting them back in store about the 1st week in April but nothing yet...

I purchased a boardman cx comp about 2 weeks ago and as you say I had been in a few halfords and had seen the team but as you say not the comp then randomly see a comp and brought it straight away and so far soo good good price range for this bike and doesn't have bad components on it, speak to someone and get them to order it in.

There's an extended thread knocking about somewhere if you search it. I love my Comp and it's served me very well so far - though if you can get someone other than halfords to set it up (ie buy it boxed) so much the better!

I think after 6 months, the CX comp hasn't been the buy it, ride it and forget it bike. The original rear brakes needed constant attention and burned through pads far too quickly. Saddle, pedals and tapes changed- but these are personal comfort and differ people to people. On the whole I would say it's a decent bike for the sub £600 price range, but look to up-grade the brakes from the start, the rear lyra brake failed on me when too much dirt and grit got into the bearing rumps.

I agree with the last post. The brakes need constant adjustment and i've had experience of 1 ride (40 mile in wet and muddy conditions) were they have had good stopping power at the start of the ride to no braking at all at the end of a 40 mile which I found very off putting. The bike has been resigned to commuting duties and I still have to constantly adjust the brakes.

One of the reasons I went for the Team is the brakes. While not the greatest the BB5's aren't bad at all once set up correctly. Apart from the incredibly annoying front wheel catching foot when pedalling and turning it's a cracking bike.

my do every thing bike ... have changed tyres ...now running with 28 marathons and brakes upgrade to bb7 bought from this forum 3 years ago still going strong ...
