As sad before, there is something about cars that make men grew bawz... and it seems to be guys in their 30s that get a steering wheel in hand and wooooofff they have testosterone. Maybe it's the gear stick that confuses their sexuality so they need to try and show everyone how hard they are with their car. Sad sad little men.

I don't think it's that but they think they are better drivers then they actually are.

I get the boy racers at times and it's like a throwback to an A-Team car chase.

As for the plate, if it was BOB number number letter then the chance are he (or she) has paid over £10k for it, and that says a lot about a person... and the fact they deserve to be the king (or Queen) of the road!

Boy racers are diffrent, they have some serious power going on in their cars (and most of them have spent a lot of cash on it too, yes a saxo with £40k up of power might seem odd to us), where the typical 30sumit drives a family car but thinks he own the place... give me a boy racer any day.

Last night I was walking along. There is a car sitting at the lights. Driving it is a 30sumit...fat bald guy. Windows are downa nd Bon Jovi is blasting out (yes this was how hard this guy was). A couple of young girls walk past, he's out the window panting like a dog. Lights change, he wheel spins off and must have been hitting about 60 in a 30 zone. Yes the girls where after him like a shot!

No but seriously what is the point of putting up this video or other videos like it. Nothing was done, nothing really happened and nothing was resolved, so what's the point? Now if Mr.C had pursued the miscreant onto his drive and battered him with a copy of cyclecraft it might have been interesting but otherwise I'm left thinking, and.......so what?

Barring an actual full on Bollo, cameras are a complete and utterly frustrating waste of time and just result in footage that makes you more frustrated at your inability to change the habits of idiots like that. Not only that but they just present a bleak and negative view of cycle commuting when the exact opposite is true. I mean if stuff like this bothers you or you're not anticipating it you shouldn't be on the road, right?

We've had this debate before and I've come to the same conclusion about posting videos of incidents in general and close passes in particular. I'm still bothered by sh1t driving and there are times when you can't anticipate how idiotic your fellow road users are going to be, but Cracks is right, these vids alone aren't going to change attitutes. If they're used as a catalyst for other action, for example Magger's dealings with a local bus company, than that's all to the good, but it takes a lot more work than a simple upload to achieve real change.

If posting vids acts as a release valve for your frustrations, then go ahead and put them up, but I found it just helped pick the sores for even longer.

Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning crackle?

Nope, though it may be something to do with the frustration of trying to smooth out the cracks in my ceiling with a piece of DIY crap from Blurt & Queasy.

C'mon humour me, I've never really got cameras (barring a Bollo), they seem to serve no real purpose i.e. please tell me of any succesfull prosecution resulting specifically from the footage? You I forgive for carrying one, you have endearing obsessive compulsive qualities xx(

It goes for any road user actually. In fact anyone in life: shoot happens, get on with it don't film it and paw over it.

Mr.C. Post your vid through the guys door with an invite to register here and discuss good driving.

I can assure you there are not a waste of time. At least mine haven't been. I really will have to go back through my e-mails and youtube messages and count the amount of cyclists who have e-mailed me, thanking me for posting my videos (they are more discrete than the abusers!). I have had a number of cyclists who have said that they have changed their cycling technique as a result, not cycling in the gutter for instance.

What I try and do with my more recent videos is to make them a point of discussion, i.e. what could I have done to prevent this, etc. I try to make the viewer think.

What you have to remember is that we all know what happens to cyclists on the roads, we've all experienced it. However, the vast majority of people have no idea what life is like as a cyclist so POV videos are a excellent tool for getting the message across.

Ah plaster work. The work of the devil himself!xx(

It's not all about prosecution, anyway, nothing has happened to me that would require prosecution (thank goodness). It's about learning. As I said, I know a lot of people have learned from my videos and thanked me. I have learned a lot from my own videos and improved (hopefully) my cycling accordingly, and I know that sensible drivers (not the loons) take something out of my videos.

I should also add, that you shouldn't generalise all camera wearers (just as you shouldn't generalise about those ruddy cyclists!). We all do it for different reasons and have different aims etc. I certainly don't think filming and posting is for everyone, but if done propely (i.e. my way :smile:) it can be a useful tool.

Exactly.

Cameras highlight the idiotioc behaviour that people wouldn't believe unless they saw it, and yes, there have been prosecutions using helcam footage.

They are going to become more and more common, thank goodness.

I remember posting a video on utube and being slagged off by a cyclist of an minor incident I had near Blackfriars Bridge a few years back.A mate of mine said check his videos out and as it happened he had posted a video of himself riding at breakneck speed on the pavement regardless of peds. When I called him a hypocrite he said it was a special occasion,as he was filming I guess.

After that I closed my account because there are no end of morons out there like that and I just can't be bothered.

None of that tells me if you've had a net positive effect or a net negative effect. You'll also recall I don't agree with everything you do on the road so people changing things to match you is not necessarily something I may see as good.

Every time someone deliberately cuts me up on a bike I'm left wondering if some militant cyclist has not previously pissed off a guy in a two tonne killing machine or just translated what he's seen on a vid in one situation to a completely wrong one in another.

Now the bus campaigns are good but they're pretty limited and they're also an easy target. Beyond that nothing you've said convinces me of the efficacy of cameras. In fact I remain convinced footage from them is more negative than positive, it definetly makes me feel more negative than positive.

Now, apologies if I don't reply right away now, I'm away back to my ceiling to build up another head of frustration.

I don't really feel I need a camera,it takes up too much disk space for little benefit.

Although I will do when im in Bangkok but thats to film my rides and not catch naughty motorists.

Im also a bit tired of being told on here how I should ride.If I need a bit of advice I will ask for it but I have been doing it many years and if I don't know now how to do it now I never will.I try no to tell other people on here how to ride either, even if I don't agree magnatom.

Granted I make mistakes unlike User3143 because im not perfect all the time.xx(

Watch the rides out in Bagkok, they are not what they might seem... and if you do film it, best not show it to folks xx(
