Really sorry to hear this, I hope you are better. I only read this today, perhaps the answer why people didn't stop is:

(ugh). I had to laugh about a comment made about this story: "“Never put out a burning Californian.”

I would rather risk being sued than the horror of knowing that someone die or end up more seriously injured.

With regards to that case though, from what I was always told, you should never move someone if they're injured. Its quite unlikely that the car would have burst into flames tbh, real life is nothing like the movies.

wow, more and more being a human is becoming an embarassment.

i dont know weather it is because society is becoming more selfish or just plain frightened.

i believe every one should have basic first aid training, is it that untrained persons panic and run. it is amasing how many calls we get to cars upside down in a ditch at 3.00 am. and the caller says i have got no idea who is inside as i did'nt stop, the time it takes for emergency services someone could have died. And its not getting better.

Maybe something like what they have in switzerland, where you can face legal repercussions for not providing emergency aid.

Though an exemption around not putting yourself in danger would be needed.


I've long been of the notion that first aid should be taught in schools. Given they've stopped teaching people about tourniquets it's no longer a complex set of ideas.

When I lived in Dublin a few years ago, I was walking down a street and seen some woman in a very nice Merc Coupe change lane without even indicating. She collided with the motorcyclist who was alongside her. The bike hit her front wing and bike and rider ended up about 20 feet away. She did stop her car. But did she go and inquire after the wellbeing of the biker she had cut up? Nope. She got down on her knees and started inspecting the damage to her front wing. Other motorists and pedestrians checked on the biker who seemed to be okay and didn't want an ambulance. Eventually, Mrs Merc came over and started telling him off about the damage to her car without even asking him how he was. I was genuinely shocked that anyone could be so selfish. I really do hope he claimed every penny of compo he could get out of her.
