Staines should remain as it is, IMO. Anything else is rather like re-naming a street "Grape Lane".

I asked a colleague once where he was from.
"Staines", he replied.
"Oh"I says. "Staines is a great place to come from."

I don't think he liked it!

I think you've got this wrong. Forget the frenchified, countryfied stuff. Staines should go 21st century.

Midtown 308. Or even Hypertown 308. Or just 308. Dispense with the letters thing completely.

I googled!
Funny how 'Shepherds Bush triangle' hasn't been disinfected - yet. It's enough to make anyone feel a little 'crook'...

I like St Aines Riviera, although Lower Runnymede could squeeze some historical mileage into the renaming.

Used to live in Staines. Now I live in Slough. Can it get any better?
A Delight -surely?

Imagine if a certain German manufacturer was based in this Surrey town.. Would the address be Siemens, Staines ?

True story, that one, which I think I've written on these pages before.

I was working for Siemens in the late '90s and, because there are so many Siemens offices, the practice was for the receptionist to answer the phone "Siemens xxx" where xxx was the name of the town. As few towns had multiple Siemens offices, you could be fairly certain you were through to the right place if the phone was answered "Siemens Munich" or "Siemens Maidenhead".

The office in Staines miraculously relocated to Ashford without a brick being moved.
