I gather a frozen banana is good for teething (not so easy to carry about all day though). Last summer Oli enjoyed a chew on part of a Mr Man Ice lolly - although he was on a sugar/additive high for the rest of the afternoon...;)

I was out with Oli and his mum. It was a lovely sunny day, so we both decided to have a lolly, something I hadn't done for years. I suggested letting him have a go at it, and she agreed, and he did enjoy it (he was teething, so it must have been soothing), but it was only afterwards that it dawned on both of us that he'd probably never had sugar or colourings before (she makes all his meals). By the time we got home, he was buzzing! Sis suggested we should wait for B-I-L to get home from work, and then go out, leaving him to try and get Oli to bed.... We didn't though.

Once he's old enough for me to take him out for a day, I intend to do stuff like pond dipping, get him all muddy and hyped up on Sunny D, and then give him back. It's what any good auntie shoud do...

Happy days! I still shiver as I recall the eldest (who will be 30 this year, HTF did that happen?) at the tender age of fifteen months getting the top off the gripe water and downing the lot. Cue contentment. And, wierdly, a lifetime of moderation....

Oli had an ear infection one time I was down there (actually, he has one everytime I visit!*) and had learned enough to reach out for the Calpol with yearning eyes....

indeedy;

"The agency said there was a "theoretical risk" that the gel could increase the possibility of a child developing Reye's syndrome". Dr June Raine, its director of risk management, said: "We are not aware of confirmed cases but, when there are alternatives, any risk is not worth taking."

Bonjela Teething Gel contains a different formula and is unaffected."
