Book recommendation?

Hi folks!

I'd appreciate a recommendation of a book about the history of bicycles (with emphasis on the engineering side of things) and about proper repairs/maintenance. Anything an aspiring bicycle mechanic with interest in vintage bikes might need to know - kind of like Sheldon Brown's site, but in a form of a book.

I've also got Richard's bicycle book and it's very good but don't forget it dates from 1972.
Should cover you for the majority of stuff.

I took a look on Amazon, and apparently there's an edition of it as recent as 2008, it should be recent enough for my needs. Thanks!
 
The Dancing Chain by Frank Berto.
Another vote from me for this book on the history and design of derailleurs since the year dot. Hundreds of illustrations and good text of history and explanation. A niche market, and not a cheap book though I have found this one (click here) for you as the cheapest at £16 on Bookfinder - a wonderful site where I get most of my books.
