Booking Transpennine. Bustitution?

I'm currently trying to book a train from York to Manchester Airport on the TP website. Their website says there's a train from York departing at 14:58, arriving Piccadilly at 16:39, and we can catch a train to the airport at 16:51, arriving at 17:10.

All well and good, but I've heard there is a bus shuttle on this route, which could cause delays.

Their website makes no mention of having to use a bus on part of the route, although that is the case this week according to York information.

Does anyone from the area have more information?

There are issues with Trams from Picc Station to Picc Gardens as the line is dug up, so trams out to the airport need boarding on Market St/St Peters Square

Well, write it down boy ......
If the shuttle is from Manchester Piccadilly to Piccadilly Gardens, you could walk it easily in 12 minutes. Starts cutting it fine though if the first train is later in. I'd have thought trains to the airport run pretty regularly though.

I'm not a Manc transport expert so forgive me if this is cobblers, but @Andy in Germany specifically says he's getting a train from Piccadilly not a tram. "arriving Piccadilly at 16:39, and we can catch a train to the airport at 16:51, arriving at 17:10." I'm pretty sure there are both trams and trains from the centre to the airport.

Either way giving yourself a 12 minute changeover and expecting to make your connection is, I think, optimistic. But I doubt you'll be restricted to a specific service out to the airport so you just get the next one if when you miss the connection. Or, indeed, get a tram.

My experience, in the S of England at least, is that nationalrail.co.uk is well aware of planned "bustitutions" (what a word!) so, if you check on there (as well as the link provided by @Mike_P) it should show whether your service will be interrupted as per @DCLane 's advice , and heed his wise words: Give yourself extra time.

If I had a plane to catch, I'd be thinking in terms of hours, not minutes, of contingency to be built into my schedule. But as a user of the oh so reliable Deutsche Bahn you'll know this ;)

I know OP said train, but we all know trainline, and it may have suggested tram. As far as I'm aware, it's only trams that are currently affected, not the train to Mcr Airport. the airport is supported by trains and trams. That's why a rail replacement may have come up.

I deliberately bought Manchester Central Zone tickets last week, to save my wife walking across town with a broken foot. Trams weren't running from Piccadilly Station, and the replacement bus didn't go near where we needed, so ended up walking.

Given my experience of trains in Manchester, I'd advise the OP adds an hour on for the trip, at least. We have regular train cancellations, and the next one might not be for an hour ! It's called Northern Fail for a reason.

The engineering work web site I gave the link to indicates the Redcar-Man Airport train terminates before getting their and their is a bus from Huddersfield to the Airport.
