Sorry if this is too basic - I'm used to working with people who don't know where the on/off button is so tend to write things in simple terms. It's a reflection on me (and my usual audience!), not you.
Click on the "Watch Topic" button at the top of the post and choose whether you want notifications whenever there are any updates or just add them a list that you can go through.
When you want to have a look at the topic, click on "signed in as Sheddy" and then click on "My settings".
The second item on the horizontal bar underneath "Your Options" should be "Forums". Click on this.
The second item in the vertical list underneath "Forums" should say "Manage Watched Topics". Click on this and you should see all the topics you want to watch.
When you don't want to watch the topic anymore, go into it (as if you were going to read it) and click on the "Stop watching topic" button.
