But it just took me a week to get the bleedin' thing up & running! Do you really imagine that at this point I'm going to start again from square one...? I'm sure it's a dog, but so long as it's barking...

If you look at the link, I think your problem was caused by an intermittent version of the first fault described, so is likely to recurr. Your call, but if it were my PC, I'd be swapping it out today.

I think in general - all drive makes are as reliable as each other, as said on the page from your link. However, I have to admit to seeing a lot of failed Maxtor drives, I tend to avoid them. They seem to have got worse with SATA drives. I still have some old PATA maxtors going strong. Hitachi got a bad name also, yet I find them fairly good.

SP, you could do well to change it now, or just use it to death but remember to backup your data.
