I can see where Boots is coming from. I am a Student and also work for Asda part-time. I am trained to work in the photo-shop and we were basically told during training that if we think any pics that are being printed may be copyrighted we can ask for proof of copyright to cover ourselves, since if we do actually print off copyrighted photo's without the proper permission we can personally get fined on the spot.

I have refused to print pictures a few times in the past, but it has usually just been people scanning obvious professional photo's etc.

Interested to know what form of proof of ownership of copyright they accept at Asda? Exif data?

In the cases where I have asked for proof of copyright, the customers had discs with the professional photo's on them and the photographers details listed, so I just gave the photographer a quick call to double check they had permission to copy them. Also just to cover myself I get them to sign a form so that they agree that they have permission to copy the photo's.

In a case like the one mentioned in this topic, since the photo's were on her memory stick, I would have just asked her if she own the copyright for the pictures and then sign a form like the one I mentioned. Boots must just be more strict lol.

To be fair to Boots her pictures are far better than the so-called "professional" picture of the photographer at the bottom of the article.
