So have they abandoned all the unfinished 'superhighways' now?
And not change the blue paint to red on the section of superhighway section where the main fatalities are?
The positive thing is that the word 'Quietway' at least acknowledges that some sections of the Superhighway do have a rather too high chance of death.
Yet bizarrely it seems there will be almost no segregation whatsoever. This means the signs could go up overnight, there is not even a lick of paint needed.

No, these routes are additional, not replacements.
Can we please not get all Daily Wail about this? There were a spate of fatalities in an unusually short period of time. The overall fatality rate per million cycle journeys continues to fall year by year. Cycling is an extremely safe activity (far safer than driving), and continues to grow ever safer.
Yeh right. There is a good reason why we recently had that Bow vigil.

I agree the Bow roundabout setup encourages cyclists to put themselves at risk, and I strongly hope it will be changed. The idea that Boris is 'doing nothing' when he has done more than any other city in the UK to make cycling safer and more pleasant, and those efforts have been reflected in a substantial fall in the death rate, is utterly absurd.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again - Boris is a numpty and Gilligan is a word that Shaun won't let me use. But miraculously neither of them manage to wreck what the intelligent chaps (I imagine a room full of men in white coats, I'm afraid) of TfL are doing.
They've spotted (a) a lot of cyclists use main roads already; (b) there aren't enough people in London using bikes in ordinary clothes the way people do in other cities; (c) the main roads are very nearly full; (d) people have a fear of cycling in London that is out of all proportion to the reality.
So they're finding ways of normalising cycling in central London, by opening up back-street routes and helping to remove the fear factor. This is unequivocally a Good Thing, and those of you who like stravaing in lycra have nothing to fear - your choices are acknowledged in the literature.
The PDF is a very good, and very sensible read. Do read it, and do put in your comments.
