Boris nearly hit by car and truck combo whilst scouting cycle routes into London.

But what happened afterwards? Did they report the truck? Police called? Did Superman fly in and save them?

Who is Boris consulting about these proposed cycle routes anyway?

they're the TfL routes that were announced last year when Ken was Mayor - twelve radial routes. I'm concerned that this is going to end up as more Cable Street stylee contraflows when, as far as South London is concerned, the job is done (with the exception of the A3 from Wandsworth to Robin Hood and some dodgy sidestreets on the Brixton Road). Leave well alone.

Still, given that he announced the totally non-existent and going in the wrong way Sustrans London to Paris route with a considerable fanfare I'm comforted by the thought that the whole exercise may be entirely made of nothing.

Very close call that. Looks like an improperly secured door swung out after that speed hump. That would shake me up that one.

Truck went over the speed hump too quickly.

the back gate of the truck simply wasn't secure. That could easily have killed somebody. Had the other door swung open we would have been one Mayor short.

I'm just hoping that this isn't their idea of a bike route. It looks like a really skanky road.

They were very lucky that at least one of them didn't become a KSI statistic.

What amazes me though is that if you're involved in an accident, getting hold of CCTV footage is a nightmare. Yet when Boris is involved in a near miss it's plastered all over the news within hours I wonder if the driver will be charged for not securing his doors and driving recklessly.

September 2008 as part of the Europe-wide Operation Mermaid2, which
is intended to step up levels of enforcement of road safety laws in
relation to lorries.
On this one day, 12 lorries were stopped randomly by City Police.

Olympics.

Very nasty. A powerful reminder of the threat posed by poorly driven HGVs. The driver was going too fast, bouncing over traffic calming humps, and overtaking cyclists (too closely) on a bend! It also appears that the rear doors were not properly hitched - either that or the locking mechanism was loosened/sheared by the driver flying over the humps.

That's one of those 1 in 14,000,000 chance kinda incidents!

Truck was going too fast for that road certainly.

I led a CC ride from Robin Hood to Roehampton Hill along the A3. Lesson learnt!

Ah, I remember it as if it was only months ago!

Round a corner peddled the mayor and the minister, enjoying the ride, until a large lorry overtook them.

I suppose one should expect no better from the Grauniad...
