Here's a pic of my bike (temporally stolen from my lad as it is easier to bolt a front and rear rack on than my dual sus MTB and has more gears than my commuter plus the tyres are more suited to off road. Load includes enough coal and beer to last me a couple of days, a saw for cutting dead wood to fit on the bothie stove (for heat and cooking) My sleeping bag, ground mat and bivi bag plus much more.

So, how many sacks of coal and slabs of beer do you take ?

Only about 5 kg of coal in case we end up trapped I will generally leave the coal in the Bothie and source our fuel as dead wood in the local plantations. I will quite often take spirits premixed rather than beer as you get more bang per litre ! I could of been really manly and told you two 25kg sacks of coal and 4 slabs of beer but it's always been a fault of mine to tell the truth ?
